Another Christmas has Come and Gone......

Another Christmas came and went but this Christmas was different then previous. It didn't feel like Christmas. It just felt like any other day. We were so excited not to have to "run all over the place and not have any time to relax because we have to run to the next parents house" that we didn't stop to think that maybe we would miss that. Miss not seeing our families. I mean the kids had a good day playing with their toys but it just wasn't the same for me & Diana. We realized what Christmas really was for us...running around and trying to visit everyone with such little time. Going out in the cold to load the truck up with presents to take to mom and dad's only to unload them again once we got there and then in a couple of hours round up all their toys and reload them back into the truck only to unload all of them again once we got home. Beleive it or not we missed all of this. Christmas wasn't the same...it was lonely. Maybe next year we will make it home. Maybe....

Merry Christmas Fellow Bloggers.

Merry Christmas to my Buds back home. I miss you guys. Hope you have a Merry and Safe Christmas and I'll be thinking of you all back home! Also have a Happy and Safe New Year.

Movie Meme

Popcorn or Candy? Definitely popcorn with extra butter. If you don't have butter stains on your shirt when you leave the theatre there wasn't enough butter.

Name a movie you've been meaning to see forever. Cool Hand Luke (Sorry McGone)

Steal one costume from a movie for your wardrobe. The Mystery Alaska Jersey's

Your favorite film franchise is? Indiana Jones....Followed by Clerks (Just recently saw #2...not as funny but I still liked it.)

Invite 5 movie people over for dinner. Who are they? Why did you invite them? What do you feed them? Jack Black, Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn and Brad Pitt. The first four because I think they are hilarious and Brad Pitt for my wife. Brats and burgers on the grill and Jim Beam.

What is the appropriate punishment for people who answer cell phone's in the theatre?
A good punch right up side the head.

Choose a female bodyguard: Ripley from Aliens, Mystique from X-Men, Sarah Connor from Terminator 2, The Bride from Kill Bill or Mace from Strange Days?
I choose Angelina Jolie from Mr. & Mrs. Smith...Bad ass.

What's the scariest thing you've seen in a movie? I remember as a kid seeing Piranha and not wanting to go swimming at Goose Lake or the scout camp because I swore the water was full of piranhas. Scared the crap out of me.

Your favorite genre(excluding comedy and drama). Action...gotta love a good high speed chase scene or explosion!

You are given the power to greenlight movies at a major studio for 1 year. How do you wield this power? I agree to enlist the help of Mcgone because I would be horrible at this. It would have to have Will Ferrell and Jack Black in it. Two buddies having a mid-life crisis and going out on a roadtrip.

Bonnie or Clyde? Bonnie...if in doubt pick the chick.

This thing is messed up. I don't look like any of these people. I still don't get this.

Joke of the Day

A guy is shopping for groceries in a supermarket when a woman approaches him and says "You look familiar...don't I know you? Your the father of one of my kids." Now confused...the man thinks back to the only time in his life he cheated on his wife and said "Oh, are you the stripper I banged on the pool table at my buddies bachelor party while everyone was cheering my on and I was smacking your ass?" "Noooo", she replied "I'm your son's Sunday School teacher.

That there lightning bug

Today when I was talking to Cori out of the blue she started talking about lightning bugs and asked why we don't have lightning bugs out here. This is something we talked about last summer when we realized we don't have lightning bugs out here. Anyways...talking about that made me think of a poem my Great Grandfather wrote and my mom used to read to me when I was a kid. I thought I would share it with you guys.....hope you like it.

That there lightning bug

I walked out through the garden
on a dark and moonless night
A thousand golden candles
flickered there within my sight

With a graceful flowing motion
they were dancing all around
Ever silently, softly glowing
from the tree tops to the ground

Like embers from a fire
they shot into the air
No pattern to their movement
just darting here to there

As falling stars that travel
through the darkness of the night
Nothing seems to bother
the capers of their flight

When the show was over
and the candles ceased to glow
It surely made me wonder
how it could be so

Boredom Makes you do Weird Things......

So one again I was bored and decided to play with the camera while waiting for Cori to get out of school. She gets out of school at 11:18 am but I get there about 10:55 am to get a spot right in front or else I have to park down the street. Now my truck is filled with a little bit of everything to keep me occupied while waiting but does it....no. It's like filling a diaper bag full of toys for the kids when you go somewhere and once you get there there is not one thing in the bag that the child wants to play with. That's me. So luckily I always carry my camera with me because you never know when you'll find a good picture. This one above is not one of them but as I said...I was playing. I took about 10 close-ups of my nose....about 5 0r 6 of my eye.......15 or 20 of my hands.....and so on. I'm like a child....I need to be entertained or I get bored. I've read my newest Men's Journal about 30 times so I've resorted to pictures to pass the time. I wish I had snapped out of my staring long enough to get a picture of two kids getting into a fight while in line after recess. The one kid was making fun of the other kid and making faces and sticking his tongue out and what not. Well anyways...the teacher yelled for everyone to turn around in line. As soon as the kid in front who was making the faces turned around the kid in the back nailed him in the side of the head with his forearm. The other kid starts screaming and the teacher tells the fight club child to come to her. He doesn't...just a stare down. She starts the countdown...1.....2.....3.......4.........and he was gone. Before she could get to 5 he bolted down the sidewalk. Off she went after him......periodically stopping to do the counting thing again.....chasing him around the grass and trees for about 7 or 8 minutes until she grabbed him. Now I'm in my truck rooting for the kid like a fan at a baseball game rooting for the naked guy streaking across the field away from security. All I kept thinking was that he's in first grade and already a rebel. The future streaker at the Super Bowl or something. Go little dude....go.

The Clouds were Awesome this Morning.

Bored......

It's amazing how bored you can get just sitting and waiting for someone.

Night at the Port O' Call

Saturday night was Diana's Christmas party downtown Salt Lake at the Hilton Hotel. The party was alright, didn't know anybody, and the drinks were way over priced! (About $5.75 for a mixed and $5.25 for a beer.) We decided at home to bring a bottle of Jim Beam with us and leave up in our room and just run back every once in awhile to refill my flask. Since our room was only 1 min. from the party it worked our great. Even the pop was expensive.....$3.50 for a baby bottle of diet coke. (Not even a full bottle!) Anyways....the party was dieing down so since we were staying at the hotel and had no kids we decided to take advantage of the night and go for a walk and look for a bar. About a block from the Hilton was the Port O' Call.(http://portocall.com/events.asp) We had to wait in a line outside for about 10 min. before we got in but when we did it was well worth it. Downstairs looked like an irish pub with a D.J. playing and great food! I had a Garlic Burger w/fries....awesome. Now I'm always one for trying a new beer and I saw they had Polyogamy Porter on tap and had to try it....horrible. I couldn't even finish it.
Now this place is three levels so after eating we ventured upstairs to the room with the live band. This band was awesome! Their name was "The VooDoo Box". It was so good and had everyone going so nuts that even I was dancing. I know this is a scary thought but who do I know in Salt Lake City? The dance floor was getting pretty rough and I think I had a Mike Rich sighting. Now I don't know if any of you have ever seen Mike Rich dance before but not only did this guy look like Mike Rich (or David Letterman) but he danced like him too....scary. Anyways....we were getting hit a lot so I threw a couple elbows here and there and nobody really seemed to mind or notice. I am surprised to say that I had an excellent time dancing...letting myself go because #1 - nobody I know to be embarrassed in front of and #2 - There were actually worse dancers than me! Now after a while of dancing we wanted to continue to explore this bar so we went to the basement. Now the basement is how I wanted my basement. It was the gameroom. Jukebox playing, foosball table, pool table, video games and a huge bar. It was a very cozy, relaxing spot in this bar. Now this is a definite stop for anyone coming out here to see us! We closed the bar down and walked back to the Hilton. It was a very nice night and the Christmas lights were nice. All in all it was a great night. Wish you all were here to have a few beers with me. I had a few for you...just not Polyogamy Porter.

Santa Better Watch his Reindeer.

I've heard some sick stories before but this one is just nasty. Check out this sight and see just what goes on in Wisconsin on a dark and lonely night. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/11/17/dead_deer_case/

New God

I found a new God to pray to. I pray to the hula girl in the sky and if you don't believe in her just look for yourself. Non- believers.

Nuts or No Nuts?

My first time at Starbucks and I feel like less of a man for going. I should have just handed over my nuts to the girl behind the counter when I ordered this. A "Vanilla Frapaccino Grande". How gay does that sound?? What have I become?

It's Beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Hey everyone....sorry it's been a little while. Been busy with work. Yesterday(Sun.) we got the house decorated and the tree up so it's beginning to look like Christmas here. This past week was pretty cold but it hasn't been to bad lately. Yesterday and today were in the upper 30's and this week is suppose to be in the upper 30's so it's pretty nice. Jacob goes in on Tueday to get his arm checked and a full cast put on. He's doing great with it.....getting used to it. I had a meeting with all his teachers and psychiatrist on Thursday and they were all saying how wonderful he is doing! His school psychiatrist says he thinks Jacob is going to be a Engineer! Me and Diana have said that before too. They said he is close to the point where they can start to mainstream him back to regular classes. First the non-academic classes like gym, computers, recess...but it's a start! He's doing fantastic. They told me they were going on a field trip this Thursday and asked if I wanted to go and chaperone. I think I might. They are going to see "The Nutcracker" and then to a chocolate candy factory for a tour. He's pretty excited about the candy factory tour but not the play. He said "I don't want to go see some stupid ballet." He'll come around. They also told me his class is starting a program, sometime in Dec. and running through March, that the kids can take skiing lessons. They will be bused up to Snowbird Resort and be given lessons on how to ski for only $4.00! He's pretty excited. We just have to wait for January and the O.K. from his doctor so he can go. I hear they have 18 inches of fresh soft powder in the mountains. A guy I work with went snowboarding last Sat. and said it was great! If my foot gets any better I want to get up there and go skiing with BPDP when he comes out. Anyways...the girls are doing great. Cassie is still doing very good in school and anxious for Christmas to come. Cori is also doing very well and is still attatched at the hip to the neighbor girl Krista. It's good for her to have a friend so close. Diana has her company Christmas party this Saturday night at the Hilton Hotel downtown Salt Lake City so that should be fun. The hotel rooms are discounted for Costco employees so we will probably end up getting a room. We've seen the hotel before as we were driving by and it is awesome! Anyways...trying to keep everyone up to date on everything. Talk to ya all later.

Little Snow is Better Than No Snow

Early morning view of the Uinta Mountains. The building in the distance is my work.
Early morning view of the Uinta Mountains.
Early morning view of the Oquirrh Mountains.
Jacob waiting for the bus this morning with his new warm coat. It was a very cool morning....about 10 degrees and windy.

So we got a little bit of snow last night. When I say little I mean maybe 3 inches....far from the blizzard they were predicting. The kids are happy so I guess a little snow is better than no snow. The bad thing is it's been pretty cold and windy so it's hard for the kids to play outside for very long. I shoveled the driveway for the first time this morning. Not too bad......the problem last night was our driveway is on a hill and I couldn't get my truck up the driveway because of the ice so I had to park in the street. Anyways...get ready for the snow and cold because it's probably coming your way. This weekend is suppose to be upper 30's and sunny so the ski resorts will be packed because they got slammed with snow. Gotta go get ready for work....later.

Long Weekend........Not Really.

I had 6 days off of work and it seemed like maybe 3. Jacob broke his elbow on Tuesday.....sat in the hospital all day Tues........slept on a cot Tues. night.....sat all day until his sugery at 1:00 p.m. on Wed......sat until discharged at approx. 5 p.m.......went home and cleaned house a little.....ran to airport to get Diana's parents and our nieces at 6:30 p.m........came home and sat and talked until bed......Thanksgiving we sat and ate and ate and ate and ate and did nothing (the only relaxing day)......Friday went to Antelope Island.........Saturday went to the mountains and Robert Redfords Sundance Resort.......woke up at 4:30 a.m. to take Diana's family back to airport Sunday morning. That's my 6 days off in a nutshell. Not much time for relaxing. Did NOTHING on Sunday. Nothing including the Christmas lights. I wanted to get them up because of our winter storm coming but was to lazy to do it....I'll get them this weekend. Oh yeah...and our washer broke yesterday. Action packed weekend. Now don't get me wrong...I enjoyed having Diana's family here and taking them sightseeing but we were very tired when the weekend came to an end! Back to work today....yeah! :)

Broken Holidays

The holidays started of with a bang.....or a snap anyways. I got a call from Jacob's school on Tuesday that he fell from the monkey bars and was hurt. I ran to the school and they had his arm in a sling and his elbow was pretty swollen. I ran home to drop of Cori and her friend and to pick up Diana before running to the hospital. After a few hours and a few x-rays later we found out Jacob had broken his elblow and had to have surgery. Well.....I had given him something to eat before coming to the hospital and because he had something in his stomach he could not have surgery until Wednesday afternoon. Well after a long night sleeping on a cot in the hospital and a long morning of waiting for the surgery he finally was taken in and everything went great....as surgeries go anyways. He came home just in time on Wednesday to go to the airport and pick-up Diana's mom & dad and our two nieces. It was a long two days but all in all it could have been worse...he could have hit his head but thank God he didn't! He's doing great.

Energy Solutions Arena

How dumb does this sound...."Energy Solutions Arena"? That's the new name for the "Delta Center" downtown Salt Lake which is home to the Utah Jazz. http://www.sltrib.com/ci_4698067
Pretty dumb if you ask me. This is a facilty which takes care of nuclear waste. Nuclear Waste. People on the street on the news were saying we should just call it the "Dump Arena". I think maybe people should give things like this a little more thought. I guess money talks and good names walk. It is even odd to say "Energy Solutions Arena". The "Delta Center" rolls off the tongue so much easier. Just had to vent. What does everyone else think about this?
